Dental Hygienists' Association Stress: a physical, chemical or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension, and may be a factor in disease causation. Maryland Dental Hygienists Association provides the following six page section of our website as an informational resource about this very important opportunity for those who may need these services. The Maryland Dental Hygienists' Association Well-Being / Rehabilitation Program is a service available to provide well-being assistance to any licensed registered dental hygienist in the state of Maryland who is dealing with a physical, emotional, mental or substance abuse difficulty. In general, other health professions, such as physicians, nurses, and dentists with rehabilitation committees offer the support for individual recovery while providing a mechanism for public safety. The program / committee has been authorized by a joint agreement between the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners and the Maryland Dental Hygienists' Association. It was created under Annotated Code of Maryland (4-508) in 1990 and is funded by House Bill 49 which was passed in 1999. Clinical services are coordinated through the committee's contracted mental health practitioners. The program is voluntary and the rights of confidentiality are strictly upheld in compliance with Federal guidelines and current HIPAA Privacy Rules.
