News of Maryland's Student American Dental Hygienists' Association ![]() Maryland Dental Hygienists' Association is very proud of the three dental hygiene programs located in our state. We enjoy an even greater sense of pride in our student dental hygienists, who throughout their educational process, annually demonstrate their dedication to the tradition of service to the citizens of Maryland. We eagerly anticipate welcoming these wonderful young professionals into the folds of full membership upon completion of their studies and attaining of licensure. This section of our website is dedicated to publishing of school news from each of our SADHA chapters in Maryland. Allegany College of Maryland Baltimore City Community College ![]() Our program at CCCB consists of 60 dental hygiene students (30 in each class). We are a two year program and offer the ability to matriculate to the University of Maryland for degree completion. Our SADHA program helps us to understand the role of being a health professional, teaches us the importance of ADHA membership throughout our professional lives, provides us with opportunities for leadership development, and aids us in understanding how our professional organization works for us.
University of Maryland Dept. of Dental Hygiene Our SADHA chapter has continued its service activities with the Ronald McDonald House here in Baltimore. On the first Saturday of each month, we cook and serve breakfast for the residents of the House. These residents are the families of children receiving treatment at the University of Maryland Hospital, Johns Hopkins, Kennedy Kreiger or Kernan's Hospitals. Many times, parents have so many decisions to make that trying to figure out what to eat for breakfast is oftentimes one more decision that is just too much--and they skip breakfast and go to the hospital for 12-14 hour days. These are primarily parents, grandparents and/or extended family members who are here for oftentimes many months while a sick child is being treated for serious illnesses, limb lengthening, LBW babies with multiple birth problems, and most recently, interacting with the family and the conjoined twins who were separated. We are busily engaging in numerous fundraising activities which help to suppport our Saturday morning breakfasts. Other fundraising activities are planned for holiday baskets and canned goods for needy families in the community. The Junior class had a bake sale and contributed the proceeds to the Linda Devore Endowment Fund. We are truly fortunate to have such dedicated students. If any members would like to honor Linda by contributing to the endowment fund, the address is as follows: Linda E. ADHA's Virtual Mentoring Program for ADHA Members ADHA is looking for current members to participate in this new program , which allows ADHA members to interact with SADHA members via e-mail. The virtual mentoring program allows ADHA members the opportunity to provide students with knowledge and advice based on first hand, "real world" experience. As a mentor, you are able to provide insight and advice not found in a textbook or educational setting; as a licensed dental hygienist, you have the advantage of knowing and understanding the experiences of dental hygiene students. Based on your experiences you can lend support and encouragement during difficult times including clinics and Boards. Following graduation, you, as an active member, can assist in the transition from student to active membership. To become actively involved in ADHA's virtual mentoring program, send an e-mail to Danielle Bright, Manager of Member Services at mentoring@adha.net. Please include your ADHA member ID, name and e-mail address. . Questions regarding the virtual mentoring program should be directed to Danielle Bright, Manager of Member Services at danielleb@adha.net or phone 1-800-243-2342, ext. 247. Sometimes Things Can Get A Little Confusing! The terminology used to describe the things

confusing. So to help you out, we are including the following list of ADHA
