Licensure In the State of Maryland, as in other states, certain occupations require licensure or certification by state boards, commissions or departments within the state. The terminology describing this process or requirement may vary from state to state and from one occupation to another, but essentially, most if not all health care providers must become licensed in order to "practice" their occupations. In order to qualify for work or "to practice" in the health services occupations such as Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, and Pharmacy individuals must meet certain strict requirements and qualifications specified by a government agency. The process usually requires that the applicant for licensure provide formal proof of having met specific standards of education, experience and skills. The usual reasons for licensing occupations are to ensure the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the public by establishing standards for occupations affecting the residents of the state, and as a revenue enhancement for governmental operations. and Dentists licensed in Maryland will very soon be receiving notice by postal
mail that the 2007 license renewals are going to be available on-line by way of
the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners website. You may access their site
by clicking on this link (http://dhmh.md.gov/dental). The on-line
renewal will be available beginning May 1st through June 30th. Please
scroll down their menu for the renewal pages. Just as driving
a car with an expired license can result in expensive and punitive actions by
the courts, practicing your profession with an expired license can result in
disciplinary actions such as fines for you and your employer, and a
period of prolonged mandatory community service. All violations of the dental
rules and regulations are maintained in the records of every Maryland licensee
including that of your employer and yourself. Please
remember to renew on time! Please use a credit card to submit
payment. It is quick and easy to do. The website will have step by step
instructions to help you get through the renewal process.
